“Every time someone pirates me unrated,” she whispered, “I get a little piece of their hard drive. Their browser history. Their late-night thoughts.”

The file deleted itself. But in his torrent client, the upload continued. 666MB. Seeders: 2.

Leo froze. On-screen, the film played—but wrong. Scenes he’d never seen: Jennifer visiting the boy who downloaded the movie before him. The scene didn't cut away. She leaned into his webcam’s field of view, though his laptop lid was half-closed.

The video cut to his own funeral. Date: tomorrow. Cause of death: exsanguination, smile carved post-mortem. Then the screen went black. A single line of text appeared: Thank you for seeding. She knows where you sleep. -CM-Jennifer-s Body -2009- Unrated -720p BluRay...

“You wrote an essay on me,” she purred. “But you never asked if I liked it.”

“Here’s the unrated ending, Leo. The one they didn't release.”

The download finished at 3:33 AM.
