Do not buy Undelete today. Instead, enable File History (Windows built-in) or use Backup and Sync to a cloud or NAS. If you absolutely need on-the-fly deletion protection for a legacy HDD, Undelete is a fascinating, functional piece of software history—but not a wise investment for future data safety.

Note: Condusiv appears to have discontinued active development of Undelete as a standalone product, pivoting entirely to their Diskeeper defrag engine. The download links on their website (as of 2025) often lead to 404 errors or outdated trials. diskeeper undelete

This review will explore why Undelete was (and in legacy systems, still is) a unique beast—and where it falls short in 2024/2025. Most file recovery tools (Recuva, PhotoRec, R-Studio) work by scanning the raw disk surface for file signatures—magic bytes that indicate the start of a JPEG, DOCX, or MP4.
