I recently dug out my old Navman F20 GPS unit to update the maps, but I ran into the classic driver issue on Windows 7. The device connects via USB, but Windows doesn't recognize it correctly (shows as "Unknown Device" or fails to load the driver).
After a lot of trial and error, I wanted to share what worked (and ask for advice if anyone has a better solution).
Thanks. "Struggling with Navman F20 driver on Windows 7? Native support is broken for 64-bit. Fix: Use Windows 7 32-bit, run the old Navman Desktop Kit in XP Compatibility Mode, or – best solution – run a Windows XP virtual machine (VirtualBox/VMware). Avoid auto-driver installs."
Since the Navman F20 is a legacy device (circa mid-2000s) that was designed for Windows XP, Windows 7 requires specific troubleshooting. Help/Guide: Getting Navman F20 to connect to Windows 7 (Driver fix)
Hi everyone,
The Navman F20 uses a proprietary USB protocol, not standard mass storage. The official drivers from Navman/ MiTac were signed for Windows XP/Vista (32-bit). Windows 7 (especially 64-bit) often rejects them due to driver signing or outright incompatibility.
