No one was there. But the evening air smelled like his mother’s perfume and his father’s pipe tobacco.
He looked back at the screen. The episode was ending now, credits rolling over a static shot of his living room—except this time, the armchair was empty. And written on the wall in what looked like charcoal was a single sentence: Poppas.House.S01E03.HDTV.x264-TORRENTGALAXY
But this Leo on-screen was older. Maybe five years. Hair grayer, eyes deeper set. He was watching something off-camera. Waiting.
The screen filled with static, then resolved into a wide shot of a modest living room. Beige couch. Worn oak coffee table. A framed print of Hokusai’s Great Wave on the wall. His living room. Exactly his. The file corrupted instantly
A title card appeared, hand-drawn, wobbling slightly:
“I miss you both,” TV-Leo whispered. Episode 3: The Visitor Who Never Knocks He pressed play
The shadows didn’t answer. But the coffee table rattled—just once—and a single Polaroid photo slid out from under a magazine. The camera didn’t show the photo’s surface, but Leo knew. He knew it was the last picture ever taken of his parents, Christmas 2003, before the accident.
Instead, he stood up, walked to the front door, and opened it.
