Sharmili is at a club or a remote lodge (cinematography is famously dimly lit). The antagonist, a leering "businessman" with a silk shirt and a gold chain, offers her a soft drink. The audience sees the white powder dissolve. We scream internally.
But we also call out the "Sharmili" trope for what it is: a relic.

Enter . When you mention "Target Lifestyle and Entertainment" in the context of Tamil and Telugu cinema, one face dominates the mid-2000s: Namitha.
Unlike the fictional Sharmili, Heera’s characters in the mid-90s rarely got drugged. Why? Because her characters carried pepper spray in their pallu (metaphorically). Heera’s brand of entertainment was the "chase." The cat-and-mouse game where the hero tries to woo her, and she outruns him through tea plantations. We scream internally
Of course, the hero crashes through the window (literally) and saves her. The "drugged" sequence serves only as a catalyst for a fight scene. The film never checks in on Sharmili’s trauma; she simply wakes up in a hospital, hair perfectly curled, ready to sing a duet.
