The peace is shattered when Adam Warlock, a golden super-being created by the Sovereign's High Priestess Ayesha, attacks Knowhere. His target: Rocket. During the assault, Rocket is mortally wounded by a kill switch implanted in his body.

To save Rocket, the Guardians must infiltrate the headquarters of the Orgoscope, the massive space station of the mad scientist (HE). There, they uncover Rocket's tragic origin: he was a normal raccoon who was surgically and genetically augmented by the HE. Rocket was part of a batch of intelligent animals (including his friends Lylla the otter, Teefs the walrus, and Floor the rabbit) who dreamed of a perfect new world. When Rocket showed superior intellect and questioned the HE's cruelty, the HE tried to kill him. Rocket escaped, but his friends were murdered. the guardians of the galaxy vol.3

The film cuts between the present-day heist and flashbacks of Rocket's past. The Guardians battle the HE’s forces, face the newly introduced Adam Warlock (who has his own redemption arc), and eventually confront the HE.
