Season 1 takes place in , a 1920s-style metropolis founded by Aang and Fire Lord Zuko. The city is a melting pot of benders and non-benders, but tensions are boiling over. Main Plot The central conflict is between benders and non-benders . The revolutionary group known as the Equalists , led by the charismatic and masked Amon , aims to rid the world of bending entirely. Amon claims that the non-bending population has been oppressed for centuries and has the power to permanently remove a person’s bending—a terrifying threat to the Avatar.
Set 70 years after the end of Avatar: The Last Airbender , the series follows Korra , a 17-year-old waterbender from the Southern Water Tribe who is the new Avatar. Unlike Aang, Korra has already mastered three elements (Water, Earth, Fire) but struggles with the spiritual side of being the Avatar—specifically Airbending .
